Let God-seekers remember that in this life God’s holy angels minister to those human beings who serve Him by believing His Word and obeying it, and that Jesus, being a man, was served by them after 40 fasting for 40 days. Remember also that man, including Jesus of Nazareth, was created “a little lower than the angels.” With those Truths in the back of our minds, let us turn to the first chapter of the Book of Hebrews and begin with verse 14. Here we find the Apostle Paul reminding the Israelite Christians that angels minister to them and all true Christians who would, if they maintain their standing with the Lord, receive eternal life at the return of Jesus Christ. This salvation, which includes much more than eternal life, is at the present time a promise from God to the heirs of salvation–His saints, His Very Elect. Let us remember that an heir is one who has a PROMISE OF SOMETHING TO BE RECEIVED IN THE FUTURE while an inheritor is one who has RECEIVED SOMETHING PROMISED IN THE PAST. In this age saints are heirs; at the return of Jesus to earth they will become inheritors IF …. Knowing that conditions must be met in order to qualify for receiving God’s promises, Paul reminds the Hebrew Christians that sin–the breaking of His Ten Commandment Law (1 Jn. 3:4)–requires results in punishment which, if sin continues, will result in being denied salvation (1 Jn. 3:5-10).
Part of the salvation package involves rulership over the entire universe (Heb. 2:5-10). In these verses Paul reminds the reader that God has not promised the universe to angels, but rather to men whom He will set over the “works of your (God’s) hands”–the entire creation. Paul goes on to tell us that God will place ALL THINGS in subjection under man rule. Though man is created “a little lower than the angels,” NOTHING, we are promised, will be outside of his control in the future, including angels (1 Cor. 6:3). As verse eight tells us, we have not yet “seen” (experienced) this happening. The universe has not yet been subjected to man and placed “beneath his feet.” Verse nine tells us that we do, however, “see” Jesus, Who was also made a little lower than the angels, in all His glory and honor. Through diligent, Truth-seeking study of the Scriptures we “see” (understand) that by dying He made it possible for His spiritual brethren (“friends”–the ONLY ones for which He died–Jn. 15:13-15) to share in His inheritance–rulership of the entirety of creation (the universe). This is further emphasized in Romans 8:13-21 where the Very Elect saints of God are told that (if they continue in righteousness until the end–Mat. 10:20) they will receive the promised reward reserved for the true sons of God–those who are led by His Holy Spirit (Rom. 8:14). These sons are heirs and joint-heirs with Jesus IF they are so righteous that they suffer at the hands of religionists for their obedience to the Father. Verse 21 notes that the entire creation eagerly awaits the manifestation of the sons of God (the Very Elect) which will occur at their rebirth upon the return of Jesus to earth.
Satan hates God’s true saints because THEY WILL RECEIVE THROUGH OBEDIENCE WHAT HE ATTEMPTED TO TAKE BY FORCE–RULERSHIP OF THE UNIVERSE. As Paul said after visiting heaven and being in the presence of the Father, eye has not seen nor can the mind of man comprehend what the Father has in store for those who love Him and prove it obeying Him.
